Let’s call it a comeback
Detroit, Michigan, is the largest city on the U.S.-Canada border and the 10th largest in the U.S, with a diverse population of around 680,000. Home to the three largest automakers in the United States or the „Big Three“, Detroit is considered the heart of the American auto industry. But there is more to the city than motors.
Now is the time to visit Detroit and witness the exciting transformation of a city on the verge of a renaissance. After some challenging years, this resilient city is currently making a convincing comeback. In the spirit of the city‘s motto: “Speramus meliora; resurget cineribus” (We hope for better things; it shall arise from the ashes), coined after a fire nearly destroyed the city back in 1805 – Detroit is once again back on its feet and ready for the world to notice.
We fly to Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), which is only 29 kilometres (18 miles) southwest of the city centre. Detroit is a driving town, so we recommend finding your wheels before heading there.
Discover the D
The D has everything. Cultural happenings, great dining, a legendary music scene, markets, unique architecture and beautiful nature in the surrounding Michigan state, no matter the season.
Detroit has an impressive theatre district with a great variety of concerts featuring some of the biggest names in show business, exciting events, comedy and family shows.
We recommend a visit to the world-renowned Detroit Institute of Arts. The Motown Historical Museum is also a must and the Henry Ford history museum complex is definitely worth a visit. The locals recommend spending the day at Belle Isle Park, which has a golf course, a museum, basketball courts, and baseball field.
WOW tip - You can’t visit Detroit without trying the famous Coney Island Hot Dog and washing it down with Vernors, a ginger flavored soft drink that is Detroit’s signature.
